Background of the Study
Enterprise-wide IT security policies are essential for safeguarding organizational assets against cyber threats and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. In the banking sector, where the stakes of data breaches and cyberattacks are high, robust IT security policies are critical (Raji & Ahmed, 2023).
Commercial banks in Gombe State operate in a rapidly evolving threat landscape characterized by sophisticated cyberattacks. Despite the implementation of IT security policies, banks face challenges such as policy non-compliance, lack of employee awareness, and resource constraints, which undermine their effectiveness.
This study examines the effectiveness of enterprise-wide IT security policies in addressing these challenges and enhancing cybersecurity outcomes in commercial banks in Gombe State.
Statement of the Problem
Although commercial banks in Gombe State have adopted IT security policies, breaches and other cyber incidents continue to occur. This raises questions about the adequacy and implementation of these policies.
Factors such as weak enforcement mechanisms, limited resources, and low employee engagement often limit the effectiveness of IT security policies. Addressing these issues requires a thorough understanding of the challenges and best practices in policy implementation.
Objectives of the Study
1. To analyze the effectiveness of enterprise-wide IT security policies in commercial banks in Gombe State.
2. To identify challenges in implementing IT security policies.
3. To evaluate the impact of IT security policies on reducing cyber threats.
Research Questions
1. How effective are enterprise-wide IT security policies in commercial banks in Gombe State?
2. What challenges do commercial banks face in implementing IT security policies?
3. What is the impact of IT security policies on reducing cyber threats?
Research Hypotheses
1. Enterprise-wide IT security policies are not significantly effective in commercial banks in Gombe State.
2. Challenges in implementing IT security policies do not significantly affect their effectiveness.
3. IT security policies do not significantly reduce cyber threats.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on commercial banks in Gombe State, analyzing their IT security policies and their effectiveness. Limitations may include variations in policy enforcement and restricted access to security-related data.
